THE SONG: Beg For You (feat. Rina Sawayama).

WHO: Charli XCX.

WHY IT’S HOT: UK Garage/2-step has been percolating beneath the pop surface for well over a decade and almost 20 years since it’s ubiquitous hold on British dance music during the 1990s and early 2000s. It’s good to hear it in a pure pop form — though not too pop thanks to Charli XCX’s on-point instincts — in the first single off her latest album, CRASH. She’s got a great ear for a hook that’s been on display since her Icona Pop/I Don’t Care days.
