MONO: “Never Stop” by the Brand New Heavies (feat. N’Dea Davenport).

THE SONG: Never Stop.

WHO: The Brand New Heavies.

WHY IT’S HOT: The Brand New Heavies went through a number of incarnations through their continued existence, from acid jazz pioneers to electronic R&B. One particularly fruitful version of the British band featured N’Dea Davenport singing vocals during the mid-1990s. Their version of funk descended from Northern Soul and they were contemporaries of the likes of Jamirquai. The relaxed gait of their music coupled with Davenport’s easy delivery complemented each other perfectly. Never Stop foreshadowed a partnership with Davenport the Heavies would return to numerous times up until current times.
