Minnesota Twins’ away record works in their favor, as does the fact that their big bat, Nelson Cruz, hits slightly better away than at home. This should neutralize the home field advantage the New York Yankees will enjoy in this series. Not only that, the Twins have not won a playoff series against the Bombers in a very long time, so they’re due. Lastly, a five game series makes the Twins very, very dangerous for the Yankees. They’re the bookies’ favorite to win tonight (-121).

This is how they stack up.

  • Home: 46-35; Away: 55-26
  • Starting pitcher: Jose Berrios Home 7-4; Away 7-4
  • Starting Pitcher ERA/WHIP: Home 3.51/1.22; Away 3.51/1.22
  • Closer: Taylor Rogers Home 13 SV; 16 SVO; WHIP 1.00; 3.71 ERA/ Away 17 SV; 20 SVO; WHIP 1.0; 1.54 ERA

  • Best Hitter: Nelson Cruz Home wOBA .413; wRC+ 160; Avg 304/ Away wOBA .423; wRC+ 168; Avg .319
  • Pitcher vs. Best Hitter (Career): Jose Berrios vs DJ LeMahieu Avg .000; 3 AB; 0 R; 0 H; 1 SO; .000 OPS
  • Misc: Team WAR 45.0;

The New York Yankees look to start their quest for their 28th World Series championship on a positive note, sending their ace James Paxton to the mound. He finished the season strong, winning 11 of 12 games. The Twins have crushed fastballs all season, so it will be interesting to see how Aroldis Chapman performs against them at the end stages of games. He’ll need to rely on his new slider a little more. That being said, the Yankees have been dominant at home.
