MONO: “New York Groove” by Ace Frehley.

Think you know a song — old or new — that deserves a shout? Send us your suggestions and why the songs are hot. We’ll post it on the site for the world to read.

THE SONG:

WHO: KISS/Ace Frehley.

WHY IT’S HOT: First, I love songs sung by people who can’t really sing (See: Bernard Sumner of New Order (another legend). At that point, it’s all about believing in the song. Frehley sounds great. Even has a little Lou Reed going on there when he says, “Back in the New York Groove.” Second, the song is so simple yet it’s got a definite groove going. Check out Frehley’s appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. By mid-song every Roots head is bobbing with the song. Last, the song’s about New York City. How can you go wrong?
