THE SONG: Sad Cowboy.

WHO: Goat Girl.

WHY IT’S HOT: From the song’s opening synths to the intoxicating gallop of the band’s rhythm section to the swirling flourish at the end, “Sad Cowboy” never lets up. It’s a song of two halves (though not exactly in the temporal sense) — the line of demarcation being the deeply satisfying synth solo at about the 3-minute mark — and I’m not exactly sure which half I like more.

WANT MORE? Another song broken into halves (and again not in the temporal sense) is Babe Ruth’s “The Mexican”, one of the most underappreciated songs in hip-hop history.

WORDS: brice.
