MONO: Sam Cooke’s “Bring It On Home to Me – Live at the Harlem Square Club, 1963.”

THE SONG: Bring It On Home to Me – Live at the Harlem Square Club, 1963.

WHO: Sam Cooke.

WHY IT’S HOT… Sam Cooke is best known for his silky voice and smooth delivery, in short, his carefully crafted “pop” image. This amazing song off an amazing album was deemed too gritty and raw by his label, RCA Victor. They stuck it in an archive where it all but disappeared. It was eventually released in 1985. A quick listen will tell you it’s something special. His energy and raw voice capture what his live shows away from the mainstream must have been like.

WANT MORE? Listen to the entire album. Appreciate it. You can only hear it for the first time once.

WORDS: brice.
