NUTSHELL:ย The Pacific Science Center in Washington focuses on interactive science and technology exhibits that engage visitors of all ages. Their unique emphasis is on providing hands-on experiences that stimulate curiosity and learning in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). They also have a notable planetarium, IMAX theaters, and educational programs designed to make science accessible and fun for everyone.

THE NUT: In the museum’s own words: โ€œPacSci ignites curiosity in every child and fuels a passion for discovery, experimentation, and critical thinking in all of us.โ€

Embrace the charm of nostalgia with our Vintage-Inspired Contemplative Pooh-Bear Graphic T-Shirt. The “Winnie” in Winnie-the-Pooh was based on a Canadian Brown Bear, aka Ursus americanus, named Winnipeg.

NOW SHOWING: The “Science for Everyone” exhibit at the Pacific Science Center offers interactive, hands-on experiences designed to engage and educate visitors of all ages. With immersive displays and activities, it makes science accessible and exciting for everyone.

COMING SOON: The August Exploration for All event at the Pacific Science Center offers a free, sensory-friendly experience on August 17 from 5-7 p.m. The center will have reduced lighting, noise, and visual stimulation, allowing visitors to enjoy exhibits without heavy crowds. Activities include a live science show, a planetarium open house, Tinker Tank maker space, a laser program, and access to the Tropical Butterfly House and PACCAR IMAX Theater. The event is specifically designed for families and individuals seeking a more accessible visit.

GEOGRAPHY: The Puget Sound Model exhibit at the Pacific Science Center features a 100 sq. ft. scale model demonstrating real tides and currents of Puget Sound. Created by the University of Washington’s Department of Oceanography and installed in 1971, it serves to educate visitors on the dynamic marine environment and the impact of human activities. The exhibit now includes augmented reality content, offering interactive stories about volcanoes, glaciers, and rainfall. It aims to enhance understanding of environmental changes and the importance of responsible resource management.

DATE NIGHT: The Summer Nights Happy Hour at the Pacific Science Center is on August 21 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. for guests 21 and over. Attendees can enjoy laser shows, planetarium visits, the Tropical Butterfly House, and drinks and food from Navi Catering (not included in ticket price). Early-bird tickets are $20 for members and $25 for non-members; regular tickets are $30 and $35, respectively. Proceeds support STEM education in Seattle and Washington.

INSIDER TIP FROM MUSEUM STAFF: Pacific Science Centerโ€™s (PacSci) new exhibit,ย Pollinator Path, encourages visitors to reflect on the intertwined and cyclical relationship between plants, pollinators, animals, and themselves. PacSci worked closely with Owen Oliver (Quinault / Isleta Pueblo) of Headwater People to create this outdoor exhibit with a Native-led interpretive approach.

Indigenous knowledge, historically excluded and still underrepresented in STEM, takes center stage in this multi-sensory exhibit, such as the story of the โ€œthree sistersโ€โ€” corn, beans, and squash โ€” that have long been planted together, highlighting Indigenous agricultural expertise and tradition. Berries, ferns, and other native plants used for food and medicinal purposes also attract native pollinators such as birds and bees. Native plant, pollinator, and animal names that have been used, and are still used today, by local and regional Indigenous communities will be on display, and Chinuk Wawa, a Native Pacific Northwest language, will be written, read, and heard throughout the exhibit.

Every PacSci ticket and membership purchased supports PacSciโ€™s mission to expand access to STEM education across the state of Washington. PacSci serves more than 500,000 students, educators, and families at schools, libraries, community centers, and our very own campus every year.
