DATA DEPENDENT DAILY (MLB): Tatis Jr. And Corey Kluber offer glimpses of greatness.

San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. brought showtime to the Big Show yesterday on his first game back from the COVID-19 injured list. He went 4-for-4 with a dinger to boot. The mixture of productivity and efficiency put him slightly above (in terms of OPS) the Baltimore Orioles’ Trey Mancini who went 4-for-5 with 2 home runs.

New York Yankees’ $11 million gamble, aka Corey Kluber, came good yesterday. No, scratch that. He came great, pitching a no hitter against the Texas Rangers (his team last season). He was so dominant that he was actually one walk away from a perfect game. He had his old dominant slider going. If he’s returning to form, opposing teams should worry. He’s won the Cy Young twice. Maybe he’s shooting for a third?

While Cincinatti Reds’ left fielder Jesse Winker technically holds the top hitting slot for Thursdays, he’s been injured so we’ll slide down to the next in line: Yordan Alvarez. The Astros outfielder has started the season well and has maintained his hot form. In the last 7 games he’s been hitting .333. Pull back to his last 7 games, and his batting average increases to .391.
