WHY IT’S HOT… There’s this misconception about the Beatles (especially early years Fab Four) that they were some squeaky clean teeny-bopper boy band. Of course, they were anything but. Forget the look, which was as subversive as it got in the early sixties. Their first international number one song stands the test of time as one of the great fellatio songs in music history. The narrator begs his girlfriend for a little bit. He implores her “Please, please me.” He works himself into a frenzy begging her, “C’mon! C’mon! C’mon! Please, Please me like I please you.” The use of double entendre would be a device the Beatles returned to consistently through their time together. Taking the joke one step further, their debut album is titled after a blow-job song.
WANT MORE? John Lennon based the song’s title (somewhat) on the Roy Orbison version of the Jim Reeves song, “Distant Drums” in which the song’s narrator sings, “So Mary, marry me. Let’s wait.”
